Update Friday afternoon

Dale had another "spell" yesterday. They aren't sure what it is, but according to the EEGs, it is not a seizure. Every day his brain wakes up a little bit more. He's been trying to roll out of bed. He had a hard day yesterday. Because of the "storming", he can't shut off any motion, and it's hard for him to sleep. They are going to try a new medication to see if he can rest a little better tonight.
Dale said "hi" to his sister Katie today on the phone. That made her pretty happy. He says some things but realizes it's hard to speak, and he gets frustrated at times.
He's ready for the next step of rehab, which will be 3-4 hours of intense physical therapy. He likes to lean way back when he's walking and has to be supported by his shoulders.
Kirsten said it's been hard to wait for Dale to be transferred. The date keeps being pushed back, and now the hospital where they were planning to transfer him says they won't have a bed for him until the middle of next week. It's possible that he could go to a different rehab hospital if the wait is too long, but it's all still up in the air. In Kirsten's words, "We're here as long as God wants us here, even when it's frustrating. He still has a plan."

Psalm 3:1-5 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

  1. Every day that Dale is alive and recovering is a blessing and another example of God's miracles. The frustration at the delays and Dale's fight to regain all functions must be overwhelming. But I do know that God has his own plan for him. We don't know what our Lord has in store, but I will continue to pray for Dale and his family. I have faith that hopefully soon, Dale will recover, and will help other trauma sufferers with his testimony and his grace.

  2. When you say he can't stop any motion it reminds me of a baby and makes me ponder. With a trauma such as Dale experienced, has God designed our brains to start over in order to regain lost ground. That prospect is exciting since, unlike with a baby, there is twelve years of experience to draw from so that the process is not learning something totally new but, rather, reclaiming already learned patterns. I look forward to any reports you give. It's like God pulling back the curtain a little to let us think through his ways. He's awesome...and so is Dale and so are you folks.

  3. My 9 yr old son had brain surgery (chiari decompression)in May and then dealt with Chemical Meningitis as a complication in June.During this time God revealed so much to me about the miracle of healing. As faithful as I was God revealed to me that I had more disbelief & doubt to be healed of. God lead me to the scripture " Jesus said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed."Luke 8:50. I held on to this scripture even when my eyes of flesh saw my son in excruciating pain and “...these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name...they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:17-18).My son was afraid he would be in the hospital on his birthday june 27 but i was steadfast in faith seeking God's truths & promises-but God's mercy allowed him a wonderful birthday at a swimming pool with family & friends. My son finished his basketball season yesterday, everyone I share his testimony with then realize what a miracle he is. "O LORD my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me." Even when my son was in pain I spoke the truth in faith & I am healed of my disbelief.I cried when I heard Dales amazing story, God has chosen him & his parents for such a special miracle.I continue to speak scripture, God's truths, over Dales life. God is the ultimate Physician and Healer, my very own son is proof-Dale is proof that all things are possible through God for those who believe. God Bless You All!

  4. Oops one last thought I forgot to mention in my first comment. Being that my son experience brain surgery, it seemed that he was much more aware of the energy given off by people. It was so important that we walked in with confident & peaceful energy because anything less was overwhelming for him and gave him greater headaches, we didn't have to say a word, just exude peaceful energy.
